01 · START WITH THE LEVEL
Tell the instructor what you have actually climbed before
Current 2026 listings describe beginner instruction covering knots, basic safety, climbing technique and abseiling, with harder routes available for experienced climbers. Give the school an honest picture of your experience rather than choosing a grade from a photograph. A first outdoor climb is different from an indoor bouldering session, and an experienced sport climber needs a different day from someone learning how a harness works.

Ask whether harness, helmet, climbing shoes, belay device and transport are included in the session. Limestone friction changes when the wall and your hands are wet
Vang Vieng can be hot and humid, while rain can make access trails and rock unsuitable. Carry water, sun protection and light clothing that still allows a harness to sit correctly. If the instructor changes the climbing sector or cancels because of rain, lightning or wet rock, that decision should outrank the itinerary.
